General Conditions of Admission
STPM
Have Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) / equivalent with credit (Grade C) in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia or credit (Grade C) in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia July paper and passed History subject (SPM 2013 onward) in the SPM examination;
and
Passed the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) Examination with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and obtained at least:
- Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in General Studies subjects,
- Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in two (2) other subjects,
and
Obtained at least Level 1 (Band 1) in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET).
KPM MATRICULATION/UM SCIENCE FOUNDATION /UITM FOUNDATION STUDIES (NON-FEEDER)
Passed Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) / equivalent with credit (Grade C) in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia or credit (Grade C) in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia July paper and passed History subject (SPM 2013 onward) in the SPM examination.
and
Passed KPM Matriculation/ UM Science Foundation/ UiTM Foundation Studies with at least a CGPA of 2.00;
and

STAM

DIPLOMA

APEL
SYARAT KELAYAKAN MASUK KE PROGRAM IJAZAH SARJANA MUDA UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA MELALUI PENGAKREDITAN PENGALAMAN PEMBELAJARAN TERDAHULU (APEL)
Syarat kelayakan masuk melalui APEL adalah seperti berikut:
- Lulus penilaian APEL yang dilaksanakan oleh MQA.
- Mematuhi kriteria kemasukan ke Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Tahap 6, MQF) yang ditetapkan oleh KPM iaitu:
Calon hendaklah warganegara berumur 21 tahun ke atas pada tahun permohonan dibuat serta memiliki pengalaman kerja yang berkaitan. - Mendapat sekurang-kurangnya Tahap 1 (Band 1) dalam Malaysian University English Test (MUET) dan memenuhi tahap MUET dalam syarat khas program.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA BACHELOR'S DEGREE PROGRAM THROUGH ACCREDITATION OF PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE LEARNING (APEL)
Eligibility requirements for entry through APEL are as follows:
- Pass the APEL assessment conducted by MQA.
- Comply with the admission criteria for the Bachelor's Degree (Level 6, MQF) set by the MOE, namely:
Candidate must be a citizen aged 21 years and above in the year the application is made and have relevant work experience. - Obtained at least Level 1 (Band 1) in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) and met the MUET level in the special requirements of the programme.
Special Requirements for Admission
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION to the Bachelor's Program vary according to programme.
General Entry Requirement
- Senior High School/Senior Secondary School/Other Certificates from the government schools with the period of at least 11 to 12 years of study from Primary to Higher Secondary (the cetificate is valid for 5 years from the year of Higher Secondary Examination)
OR
any other certificate that is recognized by the Senate of the university. - Pass the English Language requirement as determinated by the academic programmes.
OR
obtain a certificate from any Countries with English Language of instruction in their educational system. The countries include Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Botswana, British Indian Ocean Territory, British Virgin Islands, Cameroon, Canada, Cayman Island, Dominica, Falkland Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guam, Guernsey, Guyana, India, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jamaica, Jersey, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malta, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Montserrat, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Rwanda, Saint Helena, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, U.S Virgin Islands, Uganda, United Kingdom, USA, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

any other English Language certificate that is recognized by the Senate of the university. - Applicant must have a credit pass in Mathematics or equivalent and English Languages to apply the undergraduate programme.
- Applicant must not be less than 18 but not more than 25 years old before the deadline of application submission .
REMINDERS:
- The university does not recognize all types of certificate issued by private schools and colleges.
- Applicants from countries which required them to pass the university entrance examination have to submit the result of this examination together with their applications forms.
- Applicant should note that the fulfillment of the minimum entrance alone does not guarantee admission to the University.
If students do not meet any of the above English requirements, they must sit for the Intensive English class as a preparatory course, which will be conducted by the Professional Development Unit (PDU) of School of Languages, Civilization and Philosophy (SLCP) and subsequently get the minimum band required in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET).
Intensive English Course will be offered three (3) times a year for 2 year period, which will be in the month of September, February and June. Students are required to register and follow the Intensive English Course before sitting for the MUET test.
Prospective students can submit an application for deferment of registration/admission to the next semester by submitting an official letter with reasonable excuses along with supporting documents (if any) to the Department of Academic Affairs within seven (7) days from the date of reporting in.
The programme and education institution listed in the offer letter are final and there is no consideration for any change of programmes or education institutions.
The criteria that qualify students to submit an application for a change of study programme are:
- Study at least 1 (ONE) SEMESTER at Universiti Utara Malaysia and obtain a GPA BELOW 2.5.
- Priority is given to students who obtain CONDITIONAL PASS (LB) and REPEAT SEMESTER status.
- Students who enter Universiti Utara Malaysia through the SECOND CHANNEL and CHANGE OF UNIVERSITY are NOT ALLOWED to change programmes.
- Consideration for approval is subject to the ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS and STUDENT QUOTA FOR EACH PROGRAMME.
- Switching to an education programme/programme with interview is not allowed.
- Candidate has never gotten an approval to change programme of study.

The completed application form must be submitted at the Academic Affairs Department Counter or email/facsimile as stated in the advertisement according to the prescribed period.

The study programme exchange process fee of RM100 will be charged directly to the student fee account if the application is approved.

Application for change of programme of study is subject to the decision of the Admissions Committee Meeting.

Application status can be checked through the student portal.

Applications that do not meet the requirements, do not follow the procedure, or are received after the closing date will not be processed.

Students who are approved for a change of programme must refer to their respective School to plan for the new programme.

There is no term of withdrawal from the final exam. Students can only postpone their studies and automatically withdraw from the examination for a semester. Students who are sick during the examination week and submit a Medical Certificate (MC) will be allowed to sit for the replacement examination for the courses involved.
Only grades C-, D +, D and grade F are allowed to repeat the course. Grade C is calculated as a passing grade for all courses offered.
Replacement Examinations will be held in the first week of the coming semester. For example, a student should sit for the final examination of the First Semester 2016/2017 (A161) but because of his illness he cannot sit for the exam. Replacement Examinations approved for him are in the first week of the Second Semester of 2016/2017 (A162).
There are two types of documents that can be downloaded by students from the portal:
- Letter of Expected Completion and temporary transcript - This documents can be downloaded after the final results are announced.
- Completion Letter - This letter can be downloaded after the senate confirms graduation.
You may check your status of study and eligibility to graduate through the student portal. The status will be changed from “Active” to “Completed”.
The degree certificate and transcript will only be handed to students during or after the Convocation Ceremony.
There are two methods:
- Collecting the degree certificate at the Academic Affairs Department, UUM Sintok.

The name stated on the degree certificate and transcript is based on the name registered during your admission session. Any changes must be made before end of final semester. Any updates or changes after the last date of final semester will not be allowed.

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMME
Applicants for the Postgraduate Diploma programme must possess:
- a bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia; or
- a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from any other universities recognised by Universiti Utara Malaysia; or
- any other equivalent qualifications recognised by Universiti Utara Malaysia.
MASTER PROGRAMME
- MASTER’S PROGRAMME BY RESEARCH
Applicants for master’s programme by research must possess:
- a bachelor’s degree with Honours from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of at least 75; or
- a bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of 00 to 2.74 and relevant work experience; or
- any other equivalent qualifications recognised by the University Senate; and
- fulfil the English language requirement as set by the University Senate.
- MASTER’S PROGRAMME BY COURSEWORK AND MIXED MODE
- Master’s programme at UUM College of Arts and Sciences (UUM CAS) and Master’s programme at UUM College of Law, Government and International Studies (UUM COLGIS)
Applicants for a Master’s programme at UUM CAS and UUM COLGIS must possess:
- a bachelor’s degree with Honours from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of at least 75; or
- a bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of 00 to 2.74 and relevant work experience; or
- a diploma from any institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with at least ten (10) years of relevant work experience, 35 years or older and passed APEL assessment (level 7); or
- any other equivalent qualifications recognised by the University Senate; and
- fulfil the English language requirement as set by the University Senate.
- Master’s programme at UUM College of Business (UUM COB)
Applicants for a Master’s Programme at UUM COB must possess:
- A bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of at least 75; or
- A bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of less than 2.75 and have at least five (5) years of relevant work experience may be considered, subject to the interview by Postgraduate Committee; or
- A diploma from any institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with at least ten (10) years of relevant work experience, 35 years or older and passed APEL assessment (level 7); and
- fulfil the English language requirement as set by the University Senate.
- Master of Business Administration
Applicants for Master of Business Administration (MBA) must possess:
- A bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of at least 2.75 and have at least three (3) years of relevant work experience; or
- A bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of less than 2.75 and have at least five (5) years of relevant work experience may be considered, subject to the interview by Postgraduate Committee; or
- A diploma from any institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with at least ten (10) years of relevant work experience, 35 years or older and passed APEL assessment (level 7); and
- fulfil the English language requirement as set by the University Senate.
DOCTORAL PROGRAMME
- DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY
Applicants for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme must possess:
- a master’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate; or
- any other equivalent qualifications recognised by the University Senate; and
- fulfil the English language requirement as set by the University Senate.
Applicants for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme under OYAGSB and UUMCOB must possess:
- a master’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate. For a master degree with CGPA, the minimum CGPA is 00; or
- any other equivalent qualifications recognised by the University Senate; and
- fulfil the English language requirement as set by the University Senate.
Other requirements for PhD:
- The applicants should attach a motivational letter and research proposal.
- The applicants must propose supervisors’ name who have already agreed with the research topic.
- For those who are short listed will be called for an interview
- DOCTOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Applicants for the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programme must possess:
- a master’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate or any other equivalent qualifications recognised by the University Senate; and
- have a minimum of five (5) years of work experience relevant to the chosen area of specialisation; and
- fulfil the English language requirement as set by the University Senate.
OR
- Senior Managers with a bachelor’s degree from any institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with at least ten (10) years of relevant work experience and passed APEL assessment (level 8).
- DOCTOR OF MANAGEMENT
Applicants for the Doctor of Management (D.Mgmt.) /Industrial PhD programme must hold a senior position with:
- a master’s degree recognised by the University Senate and have at least five (5) years of work experience in the area relevant to the research topic.; and
- fulfil the English language requirement as set by the University Senate.
Note:
- Student admission is subjected to the fulfilment of specific requirements set by the respective Graduate Schools and programmes.
- 0.05 point will be added to the current CGPA for each year of relevant work experience, if the Postgraduate Committee believes that the candidates have the potential to be admitted. The adjusted CGPA should not, however, exceed the total CGPA of 3.75.
